How I Draw Hair and More

Hey faeries!

I wanted to show you how I draw hair. It's not going to be a step-by-step... because I don't have a clear way of doing it. Maybe I'll think of a way someday. XD

Since I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a "how I draw hair" post or just "how I draw" in general, I took a bunch of pictures. So this post is going to be mostly pictures and not words. >.<

As always, I started with a circle. It's okay if it's not perfect, no one is going to see it anyway once it's finished. XD

I don't normally do this, but this time I drew a line in the middle of the face and a bit further to measure how long I wanted the chin to be.

Remember girls have rounder/softer looking faces than guys do. And I'm drawing a girl, by the way. XD

Then I added shoulders and neck. Again, this is a rough base so it's okay if it is messy. :)

Drew the ears. Ears should be placed closer to jaw line, but not actually touching it. (I could be wrong here, I just normally do what I think looks right! Heh heh. :P)

Then I drew a simple hairline to go off of.  I struggle a little with hairlines sometimes. They matter more than I used to think. Depending on who you are drawing, if you get everything right but mess up on their hairline it won't look quite like who you were drawing. DX But don't stress about it! XDDD

Then I drew the basic hair outline. I'm drawing a curly haired girl, so I wanted to give her hair lots of body. I like adding a few strands at the end that curl in their own directions, I feel like it gives more character. (Sometimes I add strands of hair curling outward higher up in the hair, but I didn't this time.)

Then I drew the hair on the left side under her ear. In this artwork, I wanted to try drawing a girl with only one side of her hair over a shoulder, and I think I'm liking the way it turned out. :D

Then I added the bangs thing. XD I'm trying to see if I can draw them so they look like the stick off her forehead a little. (Does that make any sense? I guess I want it to look a little like the Little Mermaid's bangs, but not? XD Can't think of any way else to describe it, so. *shrugs*

Next, I shaded the hair. (I don't do that first usually. Most of the time, I fill in the main color of the hair and then shade. But this time I did differently, and I really liked it! <3 XD)

Then I shaded the bangs and left side. Another thing I did differently in this artwork, was making the shading have strands. You don't have to shade hair this way, you can just do simpler shapes...? I don't really know how to describe it. XD Like you ditch all the strandy things I did and do the main shaded areas.

I filled in the basic color I wanted for the girl's hair. And I smoothed the shaded parts into smaller points and stuff.

The shiny parts are similar to the shaded ones, they're just in different locations. (I didn't add shinier areas for a long time in drawings, only recently have I done that; so if you don't feel comfortable doing that yet, you don't have to. It's helpfully to see where other people do it in drawings or look at your own hair and other people's hair in real life.)

Then I shaded the girl's skin.

This is my first time adding shinier areas to skin, so I'm not sure if it is anywhere near accurate.

After that, I colored in the main skin tone.

And I kinda stopped taking pictures of each step of my drawing with the details. Because I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep the face the way I had going on, so yeah.

I haven't done lips and noses like that before, but I think I like it...? XD

I didn't want to rush the end of this drawing so I don't have it done yet. But, when it is finished, I will post a picture of it!

Am I the only one that thinks this drawing somehow looks like a cross between a Splatoon character and Zendaya?

Favorite Food / Weapon of Their Choice / With Glasses - 30 Drawings Challenge

Hey faeries! It's another Monday, so that means it's another post. XD

I got some more drawing challenge pictures to show you. ;)

The challenge for this one was to draw someone eating their favorite food. I thought of Barry Allen from The Flash. He loves to eat pizza. XD So I drew him looking very much in love with his pizza.

I had to look up chibi people eating something to figure out how to draw a mouth that looked it was actually full. XD When I first drew the mouth, I starting laughing because it looked so ridiculous and silly. I'm not used to drawing faces like this. :P And I looked at how people drew the hand positions for holding pizza, too.

This is also the first time using markers with my "new" sketchbook. It went surprisingly well! :D

Do you recognize this from my sneak peek a little while ago??! XD

The next challenge was to draw someone with their weapon or the weapon of their choice. I choose to draw Doctor Alchemy from The Flash. (Don't look him up unless you want spoilers!!!) I love the creepiness of this villain in the show. His plague doctor's mask is awesome! And he has this cool, glowy stone that he using as a weapon. It's epic.

Here's a picture of what Alchemy looks like in the show. :3

Doesn't he look creepy? XD

Then, the drawing prompt was to draw someone with or without glasses, depending if they had them or not. I drew Black Gryph0n, because why not? XD And he doesn't wear glasses, so *shrugs*.

Black Gryph0n, I feel like, wears a lot of polo shirts, so I drew him in one. And just to make it look little more like him, I added his symbol on the shirt. To be honest, Black Gryp0n in my drawing looks more like a kpop member than an American. XDDD Oops. >.<

Also, I tried giving him a little shine on his hair but that didn't work so I tried to cover it. Again, that didn't work. XDD Oh, well!

See you all on Thursday!

What's your favorite food?

Formal Wear / 15 Minute Sketch / Casual Wear - 30 Drawings Challenge

Hello, hello! ;)

I thought, since I'm drawing so much lately, I should post more than one picture per post this month. So today's post has three pieces of art!

The next prompt was to draw someone in formal wear. XD I chose to draw Mettaton (from Undertale). I had this model-ish pose in mind I wanted to draw and I could not, for the life of me, find a reference photo for how to draw the head and neck and shoulders the way I wanted it to be. XD So, eh, it turned out a little wonky. XDD I haven't drawn that many side profiles, so that was a challenge for me. And I have to work on shading people's limbs and stuff to give the picture depth. :P

I made up the outfit from what I have seen other anime guys wear and real people. But I didn't have a reference picture up while I was drawing.

Then, the drawing prompt was to draw a 15 minute sketch. Now, that was an intense 15 minutes. XD The person I chose to draw was, of course, Draco. I've drawn him so many times that makes it easier to draw faster.

*laughs a little* There's so many things I didn't have time to do. XD Like, shading skin or signing my name on it.

Also, I feel like a lot of people I show this to mention that he looks so grumpy. XD *is protective* Draco's just had a hard life! Be nice! You'd be grumpy too if you were in his shoes! AND EVERYONE CALLS HIM STUPID. LIKE, HECK. NOW THAT'S ROOD.

Ahem. I'm not crazy.

Now, it's casual wear. XD

Um, welp. I trieddddddd to draw a dog on his lap. And... um. It's looks like a brown colored lump, to be honest. XD

There was another little mishap. This was the first drawing in my new sketchbook. And the sketchbook doesn't work with colored pencils cuz it leaves little white dots EVERYWHERE. So. *frowns at sketchbook* Humph. (The next drawing I did in that sketchbook I colored it with markers and it works much better! XD)

Other than the mistakes, I think I like how this drawing turned out...? XD *looks at drawing again and nods head* Yup. I think I like it. XD (Although on this picture I took of the drawing you can barely tell I gave the guy stubble. XDD Oops. :P)

Okay, that's all I have for you shanks today.

Remember WICKED is good! (Not!) (Why am I using Maze Runner terms??)

Do you ever use random terms or references from books just because you like them? XD *whispers* I do. All the buggin' time.

Tales of the Month

Hey! I actually read a quite a few books this month!!!! Woo! Go me! XDD

Lately, it feels like I've barely been reading five books or less a month, when normally I read more, and I read a total seven books last month!!! So this feels like a time to celebrate a little. XD (Although, sorry, three out of the seven books I read last month I don't have enough words to say about them, so I won't being talking about them on here. DX)

Secret Origins by James Riley

This book is about: Bethany and Owen said they wouldn't go book jumping again. But adventure just seems to find them, no matter how much they avoid it. A stranger is watching Bethany's house, does he know who Bethany is and what she can do? Bethany drags Owen into investigating this stalker, and together they find a portal in the man's basement leading to a whole other dimension. This dimension has superheroes and super villains, and one particularly hero, Doc Twilight, seems to be the key to finding Bethany's father! But in this dimension, the world is taken over by something called the Dark, and only Doc Twilight can stop him. Only there is one small problem, where is Doc Twilight?

Oh my flipping gosh, this book was amazing. I think Story Thieves is one of my favorite series ever. I love the characters and the humor and the story telling in general! I cannot even comprehend the ending to Secret Origins... There was so much backstory revealed in this book, it's crazy awesome.

I could go on and on about this book but I think if I kept talking I'd spoil everything... So! On to the next book!!! XD

Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer

This book is about: The wolf-hybrid soldiers are still on the loose, and they're causing more damage than good. The shaky peace between earth and Luna is done for if things keep going the way they are. Iko takes it upon herself to go and capture every rogue soldier and return them to Luna. Accompanied by a handsome Lunar guard, Iko soon finds out that catching the wolf soldiers is going to be harder than she expected.

I wasn't so sure I'd like this next installment to The Lunar Chronicles series, the art style wasn't at all how I thought it would be! In my opinion, I thought the art style was more for a younger audience. What helped me look past that was imagining the characters the way I imagined them when reading the novels. Once I started doing that, I enjoyed it far more than I had before.

The story itself was good; of course, since it's a graphic novel, it can't go as in depth as the other books, so some people might see that as a bit of disappointment. I still enjoyed it. :) I will most definitely read the next one!

Twilight Princess (Volume 1) by Akira Himekawa

This book is about: Link's past is something he wants desperately to leave behind, and a little village in the middle of nowhere is a good place to hide. As Link grows to love this peaceful village and it's people, something dark is happening to the rest of Hyrule. Will Link have the bravery to face his past and stand up to the darkness threatening his home?

Normally all The Legend of Zelda comic books are rated E for everyone, but, uh, this book was rated Teen... And for a good reason, it had way more graphic scenes than any of the other books. Like, ya know, someone's arm got chopped off. Heh. :P And *sigh* don't get me started on the one opening scene with the Princess of Twilight. *cough cough* Better clothes would be NICE. XDDD

That was about it for teenish content in the book, but still. XDD

Now, don't get me wrong, this book isn't a completely horrible you-should-never-read-it-let's-burn-it-instead kind of book. The story was really cute and told in sweet, kinda slow for LOZ comic books way. And I really enjoyed it. But since it's a much darker graphic novel, I wouldn't let a young reader read it. And I wouldn't give it to a first timer of LOZ books since none of the other books are like that.

To sum it up, it's a grim book but I liked reading about Link's backstory and the sweet village he lives in. :)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling

This book is about: Harry Potter is a young orphan boy living with his aunt and uncle and their bratty son. One day, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a note shows up on at his door. That letter changed everything for Harry. It told him he was a wizard and that he was invited to a school of magic called Hogwarts. At the school, Harry makes friends and some enemies. And it appears that one of his enemies, Voldemort, who had tried to kill Harry as a baby but failed, is up to no good again. Harry, his friend Ron, and Hermione take it upon themselves to find the Philosopher's Stone, which is the very thing that Voldemort's after. If the Stone got into Voldemort's hands, that would mean an end to the Hogwarts as they know it and who knows what other kinds of evil things would occur; and there's no way Harry can let that happen.

AHHHHHHH, I LOVE THIS BOOK. SERIOUSLY, SO MUCH. XDD And, teehee, can you spot Draco on the cover??? XDDD

I think I will give a review on here two weeks from now. :P  So you'll have to wait 'til then to get my full thoughts on the first Harry Potter book.

- - -

Whew, well, this was written later than I thought it would be. XD Hope that's with y'all. XDD

Have a great day! Stay fabulous, be glamorous and you'll don fine in life. XDD What am I even saying??? >.< XD

What are you reading?

Oodles of Doodles - Chalk Style

Do you ever want to go do the things you did as a child? Well, I felt like doing that last week. XD

It was really nice outside and my dad was working out in the garage and the driveway area; so I wanted to be with him. And not really wanting to just stand there and watch him work, I grabbed my family's old box of chalk pieces. I started to draw and draw.

It was really fun, actually! I hadn't drawn with chalk in years. :P It's a very different medium to work with. But I think I'll do it more this summer. XD

My lovely sister, Lostfairy, took the photos of my chalk drawings so I could show you on here. Thanks, sis! <3

This first picture is one I drew of some lyrics to one of my favorite songs! It sounds so poetic: "Blue skies painted in my eyes." (You can't really read the words I wrote that has the white background, but whatever. XD I was just trying things out and not caring about perfection. )

This is quote I like to quote a lot in real life. XD I'm random that way; I like quoting certain people for some reason. (In case you can't read what it says, it says, "Must be nice.")

I'm not terrible good at handwriting... But I tried it out with writing the word loved in the phrase you are loved. XD

This is two little drawings in one picture. XD

The first one, I was kind of thinking of Peter Pan and Wendy... :P Like Wendy would be saying, "Teach me how to fly!" to Peter. And it'd be adorable and stuff. XDD I don't know for sure why my brain went that way but it did. :P

The second one is the way a book series, called Septimus Heap, writes the word magic. I was reading or had just finished reading one of the books in that series when I drew that. :)

This again has two pieces of art in a picture. ^.^

The top one you can't read what it says next to the dandelion but it says, "A dream is a wish your heart makes." You know, like from the old Disney Cinderella movie. I think my dandelion was the best artwork I did that day with chalk. I really like the way everything turned out. XD I think I'll redraw something like that on Chicken Smoothie someday. :)

The bottom one is me trying out what Lost pointed out about the way some artist shade clouds and what I noticed my oldest sis do once for shading the sun. XDD I think it would work better online or on paper; not with chalk. :P

- - -

I'm super happy! My art requests are getting done in time to post them next week! <3 I can't wait to show you!!! Lostfairy's is already done, and Swirl's will probably be done sometime tomorrow! :D

What's some of your favorite childhood activities?

How I Color - Part 2

Wow, I can't believe Christmas is coming so quickly! :O I'm so pumped for it, though! The family time will amazing. :D And getting to celebrate Jesus' birth has to be the best reason of them all to get excited. :)

And speaking of getting excited about Jesus' b-day. Here's a song for y'all.

I know it's VeggieTales, but who hasn't watched that as a kid??* XD And it's Owl City! I love his songs so much!

Ahem! Back to the main point of this post. :P

You guys remember what I posted about last week, right? (If you haven't read my last post, click here to read it. :P) Well, I promised I would show you this week how I had colored the background for the water sprite picture. So that's what happening today.** XD

*Okay, I'm sure some of you may have not watched that as a kid. I feel very sorry for you if you haven't, childhood just isn't the same without VeggieTales... XD

**As if it wasn't super easy to guess.

Here's the picture of how I left it off last week. It looks okay but a little strange with the white landscape around the sprite. :P By the end of this post it will look much better. XD

Sorry for the fuzzy picture!
Here I had just done the grass. I colored the grass lighter because I wanted the water sprite to be the main focus of the picture.*

*Teehee, that's a little tip I've learned from Rachel. :3 She has great posts on her blog, Manga Interest! Go check 'em out!

Heh, this is another bad quality photo. I'm sorry! :(
It's really hard to tell in the picture, but I colored the water a greenish blue. Now I know rivers aren't normally that color, however, I felt like that would add too much blue if I colored it normally. You know with the blue sprite, blue river, and blue sky. XD So, yeah, that's why I did it. :P

I also used three colored pencils for the river. :3 One was tealish and the other two were a lighter blue and a darker blue.* XD

*I know my colors like a pro. XD

I colored the bark... brown. C: *crowd ooo's and ahh's over the "impressive" feat I have accomplished with one simple act of coloring a tree* XD

And now the tree is a cherry tree because the flowers are pink.* :3

*Ha! I bet you thought that cherry tree's flowers were leaves the whole time!!! Because they could definitely NOT pass as leaves! Pffft, no way, no how. Not even close. Ok, the flowers do look like leaves... :P

I just colored the mountains like normal gray mountains. Woot. :P

I colored the sky in this picture above but it is really faint on the photo. :P Oops. XD

I had done the sky first with one really pale blue and gone over it again messily with a sky blue colored pencil to give it more..........................uh.................................um...............er................ texture? Does using the words texture and sky even work together??? It doesn't sound like it should. But... clouds make the sky look texture. Ish. :P

*thinks it through*

You know what! Texture is not the right word for that at all. I think the word I'm looking for is depth. Yup! That word is perfect. XD

Ah! Shading is next! I had fun doing the shading on the cherry tree even though it only needed a little bit. :)

I went a little willy-nilly with the shading of the river. XD It was a blast!

Now I've shaded all of the grass. :) I added little random patches of darker green so it would look more like real grass. I think it looks a better than most of the grass I've colored in other pictures.* :P

*That doesn't take much, though to look better than my other "grass." XD (Yesh, it was that bad. I can't even call it grass, it's "grass.")

I really, really like the way my mountains turned out in this drawing.* ^.^

*THANK YOU GOOGLE IMAGES. WITHOUT YOU I'D STILL BE DRAWING TRIANGLE MOUNTAINS WITH A WEE BIT OF SNOW ON THE TOP.

Ta-daaaaaaa!!!!!! Now I'm done the picture! What do you thinnnnnk? Do you like? XD Do you want to laminate it? So you can keep it???! Forever! And ever! And always! Amen. XD

XD You don't have to like it that much.

But I must say I think this is one of my favorites that I've done recently in my sketchbook. (The other most recent drawings are kinda meh to me. :/)

- - -

In this past week, I watched a fabulous movie with my siblings. I had never watched it before even though it has been out for quite some time. :P Wanna know what it is? :o

It was Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides! It was amazing! And I didn't get confused with the plot! Yay me! XD

And you know what the best thing about the movie was?

This edit was made by me and Lostfairy for exactly this reason: to be put on our blogs. XD

Yup. It was the cabin boy. Seriously, he was so cute. XD Yes. I can see he has the weirdest hair on earth and a adorable silly expression on his face in the picture (and in the whole movie). But... still. He's cute.

And I may or may not I have watched Once Upon a Time season three where the "cabin boy" (Robbie Kay) was acting as Peter Pan. Which happens to be my favorite fairy-tale of all time. XD And in the TV show Robbie has better hair. XD

See? Much better hair! XD And fabulous eyebrows. XDD

Sorry for that random burst of boy craziness. XD I just had to say something about him. :P

And, as for the winner and runner-ups for the raffle, your artwork is almost done! I just have one more to draw at the time I'm writing this post. (By the time you read it, I hope to be done the picture. ^.^)

Anyway, I hope you all have a very merry Christmas! Come back here on Christmas Day to see the pictures I drew for the raffle winners! Because I will have them posted then! XD

How's your Christmas weekend going? I'm sure it's much better now that you've seen Robbie Kay, teehee. XD
