Inktober - Week 5 (last week!)

Hey there!

Oops! Didn't mean to take so long in writing this post. I don't really remember any little stories to go with my art so this post is gonna be short.

Day 28: gift

This is me and my sister, Lostfairy, (I'm on the shorter one on the right) receiving gifts from our online friends that live far away. Also, the Korean words on the bottom say, "From one friend to another."

Day 29: double

Me and Lost often dress the same, so here we are wearing our Star Labs sweatshirts. (I tried drawing myself doing a finger heart but it didn't turn out quite right.)

Day 30: jolt

Have you ever heard of the game, Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion? Well, me and Lost and my bro, Josiah, like to play it in the dark. And every time there's jumpscare, we all scream (or, in Josiah's case, yell) and flinch back. I usually clutch my heart, Lost puts her hands to her face, and Josiah just, uhh, flinches? XD

From left to right: Lost, Josiah, and then me. (And that's an Acer laptop in front of us.)

Day 31: slice

This is the last drawing I did for Inktober and it just so happens to be the last page in my sketchbook. (Fitting, right?) For the prompt "slice," I drew a slice of my life. I drew my family and a few of my friends. In my sketchbook, I have the names for all the people written in the little boxes, but for privacy reasons, I whited it out for posting online.

It actually turned out a lot like the friendship quilts on AJ. XD

- - -

Well, Inktober was super fun and busy. I'm really happy that I could finish it. I'm not sure if it's something I'm going to be doing next year. I guess we'll just have to see what happens! XD

I've missed so many Tales of the Month posts, so I might do a quick recap post sometime soon and then go back to doing normal ones.

What's your favorite Inktober prompt?

The Free Commissions are Done!!!

Hey faeriessssss!!!!!!!!!!!! Imma backkkkkkkkkk.

And, yes! I finished making the commissions without you having to wait months and months!!!

(Sorry, forgot to get a link, I did NOT make this GIF.)

That's me celebrating. CX

Ahem! Anyhoo, before I show you guys the art you requested, I need to tell you something. This is VERY serious. *almost starts laughing* I have made the bestest artwork you ever seen in your life. I'm being absolutely serious here. Your mind is gonna be blown when you see this.

Are you ready?!

I don't think you are.

But then again, no one is ready to see the gloriousness I have created.

If you die from this, I'm sorry.

TA-DAAAAAAAAAAA. It's my fabulous Bendy and the Ink Machine art!!!! XDDDD

Isn't it perfect? CX

What? You don't like it??? DX

(Again, forgot the link. DX)

Haha. Sorry, that was a bad joke. *shakes head* I don't know what I was doing.

Well, I made that Alice Angel and Bendy artwork as a joke once and I just felt like posting because why not? XDD

Okay! Now on to the commissions!

I only actually got around to finishing the first one and getting the pencil version of the second commission done when I was in the waiting room at the appointment. XD So I drew the rest at home. :P

Snowlondon (sorry, I could only find your Google+ account to link back to you!) requested first, and she asked for her original character, Seraphina.

Seraphina is a mermaid, but I'm not sure if I made her mermaid-ish enough. DX I'm not a fan of the tradition mermaid outfit so I made up my own. I tried to have her sleeves be like a gauzy, see-through material, and I think it worked...? XD

And, from what I can tell, she seems like a determined girl! I hope I could put all that bravery and character into her expression. :)

I hope you like it, Snow! :D

Now, it's Sarahkey8's art! Sarah also asked for an OC of her's, Kaylee.

I had no clue what kind of swirls and polka dots you wanted, Sarah! XDD So I hope this is what you had in mind. Also, I hope Kaylee looks like she has a Ty Lee personality. CX

Heh, the raven earrings went superrrrr well. XDD Sorry, I don't know how to draw tiny ravens. They ended up looking like pointy blobs. >.<

Lately, I've been testing out shading skin with different colors besides my usual. (Which is tan and more skin tone-ish colors.) I shaded Kaylee with red and then faded it with an eraser and colored lightly over it again with a tan colored pencil. I thought the red would bring out the pink in the shirt.

I hope I did Kaylee justice, Sarah! C:

Josiah's is the next one! He commissioned me to draw Shovel Knight from, you guessed it, the game, Shovel Knight! XD

Welp, this was strange art to draw...

I don't know what to say about the art, but Shovel Knight looks like a fun character. I'm curious to see what his games would be about. :D

Erasing the certain parts on his armor to create the shine was really fun. And it was nice not having to draw eyes. (Arghhhh, getting the eyes to be the same shape is hard. >.<)

I hope you like seeing Shovel Knight in my art style, Josiah!

Last commission is Lostfairy's!!! She asked for Ghirahim from Legend of Zelda, but she is writing a fanfic with him in it. When she requested that he have the personality from her story, so he's, uh, kinder?? I guess?? I don't know! XD

Man, I love the story Lostfairy is writing, it's so good! :o And, so it was fun to draw Ghirahim from it.

Ghirahim was the commission I struggled with the longest because I couldn't get his hair to be something I liked. XD I think I'm finally happy with the end product.

I also tried something new-ish (for me, at least) with the parting in his hair. I did tiny, short lines in the direction his hair would go instead of drawing just a line or two. I really like the way it looks, so that's something I'll be doing a lot more. I'm not sure if that technique works just for guy's partings or not.

The shirt that Ghirahim's wearing is super fun to draw. I like how it's based on Link's Skyloft clothes in Skyward Sword but the colors are different. The red and black really work for Ghirahim's character.

Heh, it was a little strange to not draw an eyebrow. And then shade on his eyelid without having the eyebrow to base it on.

Psst! Can you tell that I left Ghirahim's lips white like they are in the video game? XDD

I hope I made Ghirahim a fraction as good as he is in your story, Lost!

Yup, that's all the art! It was really enjoyable to draw!!! (And, it forced me to draw a couple females, 'cause lately I have been just drawing guys... Heh. XDDD And I don't want to get out of practice drawing girls. :P)

Thank you all for requesting the free doodles!!! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. <3

- - -

If you got the free art, you are allowed to repost it. But, you must follow these two rules:

1. You MUST leave the watermark on it.

2. And you must give a link to Faeries and Folklore.

That's my conditions for reposting the art I gave for the free doodle commission.

And, just to be clear, if you want to repost any more of my art or art that you didn't get from the commissions, you must ask me for permission first!

Welp! That's all I have to say for today. CX

I hope you have a lovely time zone!!!

What do you think of the GIFs I posted in the beginning of the post? XD Too weird? (More like, too cute, right? CX)

Art Request Number Three Is Done!

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! The weekend is coming!

And. That. Means. No. School!

Hallelujah! XD

My brother, Josiah, requested chibi artwork of one of his favorite characters in the game called Undertale. The character is called Undyne. She's pretty cool sounding to me! I haven't seen or played the whole game so I don't know everything about her character, but what I've heard or seen is neat. ^.^

Undyne, I believe is named after water spirits called undines. So that's the reason she has gills and blue skin. XD

I colored this picture with my artist markers and I messed it up a little. DX There isn't supposed to be the line connecting her eye and eye patch... That happened because I accidentally went over that place twice with my markers and doing so left a very clear mark. It's nice for shading when it shows up so vividly that you colored twice in an area; but it's not good if you color messily. Like, *cough, cough* I did. :P

Another little mishap was that one of my markers leaked on the white background of my drawing. So instead of having a just plain white background behind Undyne, I had to improvise and add a pattern of the turquoise dots in the background. :P Tracey gave me the idea to improvise. I think it ended up being better with the pattern than without, actually. c:

I had quite a lot of fun drawing Undyne's hair, because I loving drawing blowing hair and bangs like that! XD And I don't think I've drawn gills on a person before so that was a lovely new concept for me. :)

Josiah, thanks so much for asking for this art request! Makes me want to draw more Undertale characters. ^.^ I hope I wasn't bothersome when I showed my drawing so many times to make sure I got it right. XDD

Welp, that's all I got for you faeries today! ^.^ So... yeah. :P

Have you heard of Undertale before? If so, what do you think of it?

Oh, Hey, There's More Art, Fancy That!

Oh goodness, it's Friday evening when I'm writing this and I'm so tired. But it helps to listen to Owl City's Cinematic CD. XD Let's see if this will make a lick of sense when I proofread it tomorrow. :P

*hums quietly along to "Not All Heroes Wear Capes"* Man, I love this album... XDD

"Childhood Friendship"

Okay!

I wanted to try out my alcohol-based markers again. (Last time was a flop. Here's the post about it. XD) I knew chibi was pretty easy to draw so I found a really cute reference base picture and drew it on some watercolor paper my older sis, Tracey, gave me.

You see, my brother, Josiah, got The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (I can't say that name without thinking of DanTDM's way of saying it... XDD) a couple months ago. And he's been playing it all the time with me and my younger sis, Lostfairy, watching. And so, as you can see, I love the game and I love drawing fan art for anything. So! That means I had to draw BOTW fan art!

I was first thinking that it would just be chibi versions of Link and Zelda, but then my dad saw what I was drawing and he said that they looked like little kids. I liked that idea, and I proceeded to simplify their outfits and make them look like kids.

I think this would be kinda how their relationship would look like if they had been friends as kids. XD

"Cool Dude"

Remember when I showed you faeries what I was working on a few weeks ago? Well, I colored it not long after and forgot to post it. XDD (Here's the link to the post.)

(I think he's a pretty cool looking guy. XD)

"Zutara"

For all of you who don't know these two "lovers," they are Katara and Zuko. AKA. Katara and my hot anime bae. XDD Their from one of my favorite TV shows called Avatar: the Last Airbender. (Which is a little bit of a *cough cough* strange show, but I love it. XDD)

Katara and Zuko aren't really a couple in the show, but I wish they were. Hence the ship name, Zutara. :P

I used a reference base photo for this drawing because *mumbles* I don't know how to draw kissing people. XDD I changed a few things up from the reference. Like, Zuko's right hand had only three fingers and a thumb. (How'd that happen??! XDDD) And Zuko's left hand was in a kind of strange position... So I made him running his hands through Katara's hair. Because that's what they do all the time in movies, right??? XD

I was also thinking Katara is all shocked and embarrassed and Zuko's totally cool with kissing her. :P (And he's totally enjoying it, too...)

"Northern Lights"

I was feeling like drawing northern lights because I've never done that. And so I drew an abstract-y night sky and scenery.

It wasn't supposed to be, but the little girl on the picture ended up looking a lot like the main character from Undertale, named Frisk. XD

One of my sisters, I think Lostfairy, said that the lights made her think of worms. XDD *laughs* I can totally see why!!

And Tracey thinks that the lights are like the northern lights in Owl City's Lucid Dreaming music video.

"Sad Draco"

I haven't read Harry Potter, but I really want to. And I've been looking in to it, and I really taken a liking to one character already. His name is Draco Malfoy. He's so tortured, how could I not like him? XDD And I saw this one picture where he's doing that same pose that's in my drawing, and I wanted to draw it. XD

I drew this with Lostfairy watching me and helping me again, because she is such a helpful and sweet and encouraging sister. ;) <3

It was fun drawing such sad eyes. XD I usually only draw eyes like that in doodles and not in actual drawings, because most of my people in my drawings are happy or serious, not super sad. :P

"Draco Malfoy"

Yes, I drew another Draco. XD He seems like such a cool character!! Even if he may be the bully... Um, yeah, that sounds weird. *laughs nervously* Heh, heh. Maybe he just doesn't know any better...? And, um, his outfit is... awesome! Ha. *shakes head at self* Yeah, no, that's not very convincing. XD

Pencil drawings are fun to do, and I got to try a technique I've been wanting to do a while. It's wear you draw a bunch of straight lines one way and the bunch more in a bunch of directions. Mhm, *nods* I know my snuff!!! XDD

It's called crosshatching and I learnt that trick from Manga Crash Course, best how to draw manga book ever. XDD

Anyway! I got to use the technique on Draco's sweater.

I sometimes think that Draco's outfit looks a little like a anime schoolboy uniform. And I love school uniforms for some reason! XD (Though, I think I'd like them less if I had to wear one to school everyday... Yay, for homeschool! Where I can wear comfy sweats and baggy hoodies all day... XD)

"Emotions"

*puts hands up and backs way and smiles sheepishly* So I'm a little obsessed with Draco right now! Heh! That's not weird. Right? Heh, heh. *rubs the back of neck nervously*

I've seen quite a few drawings where people draw a lots of emotions of one person on one picture. And I thought it looked so cool, and I wanted to draw something like that, too. :)

I drew neutral, angry, smug/happy, and sad. I first drew the basic shapes for all the Draco's, so I'd know if I had enough room. And once I was done that a drew them all one by one. It was really fun! I don't think I've drawn one person so many times, it's crazy! XD

The angry one looks super pouty mad. XDD And my neutral face for Draco is slightly grumpy or sad. :P

Oh! *is excited* Do you like how I have the smug Draco holding an apple?!!! There's a ship name for Draco and his apple! XDD Drapple!!!! :O XD He's often holding a green apple, so people think him and an apple are a great couple. XDDDD

You have no idea how hard it was drawing an apple to fit nicely in Draco's hand... I had to redraw and redraw and redraw. But I think it paid off. :P

It's so sad when Draco cries. He's not really the most pretty crier, but that's one of the reasons it's so sad. I made the sad Draco in my drawing have a tear in one eye. 3:

I didn't have enough time to color the Draco emotions picture before I posted this, so later I'll show you how it looks like finished.

- - -

XD I hope that wasn't too much Draco for you! Don't worry, though, I'm mostly sure that the next time I post art won't have a million, trillion, billion Draco pictures. XDD *whispers* Maybe, just, you know, a couple... Nothing too crazy.

So, that was my art from the past couple weeks. What do you think? Are you looking forward to summer as much as I am?!

Art from Christmas

Hey faeries!!!

Whew. This week has been, well, school-filled. It's weird to think that just last week I wasn't doing school and now I am. D: The only good thing that I can think of about school is one of the projects I have to do. And it involves drawing!* Yay! I get to draw a scene of some people from the fourteenth century. I'm thinking of drawing some cute little chibi people in fancy old fashioned outfits in a castle courtyard or something. :D I'll show you guys when I'm done it!

*I don't have an art class in my school (aka. my home XD) so this is super cool for me! XD

- - -

Remember when I said I was working on some art but I couldn't show you it because I was going to give it to my siblings for Christmas?

Well, Christmas is definitely past now. So I think it's safe for me to show you. ;) XD

Often when I draw for my family members I try to draw something from a movie or TV show or some other fandom that they really like. But for my Mom and Dad, it's kinda super hard to think of something like that. But this year, I asked my parents if it was okay if I drew them something random. (No, I didn't spoil their Christmas gift! The whole family knew I was drawing pictures for them for gifts. They just didn't know what I was drawing. XD) So my gift for them was just a random girl I came up with from the top of my head. ^.^

I didn't look at any reference base pictures for this drawing, so the proportions might be a little off. XD But it was sooooo nice making the girl's sweater have long sleeves so I didn't have to draw hands!!!!! I went a little willy-nilly with her hair, but I think it turned out okay. XD

I drew this picture for my older sister, Tracey. It's from an amazing story called The Brightest Thread she wrote and wants to get published! :O It's a Sleeping Beauty retelling.

I used no base for this... And I should have! DX I made the guy's neck and head waaaaaay too small. *cries forever* And the girl's head looks little... wonky. XD

Yeah, I like it for the most part. But I keep seeing all the mistakes.

I drew this for my bro, Josiah. He likes these three YouTubers. From left to right, Jacksepticeye, DanTDM, and Markiplier.

In case you don't know what they look like, I made a handy-dandy collage of them.

The pictures of these guys are some of the ones I looked at while drawing. XD

I'm pretty sure those guys are goofy. Not for sure, I've only watched one video of Markiplier and none of Jacksepticeye. But I have watched tons of DanTDM so I know he's silly! XDD And I wanted to draw them all doing some kind of silly-ish pose.

The drawing is one of my favorites I drew for my family this Christmas. ^.^

Credit to Lostfairy for taking a picture of my drawing. XD
It's Link! I love The Legend of Zelda so much!!!! Link is my video game crush... XDD

I drew this picture for my sister, Lostfairy. <3 She loves The Legend of Zelda video games a lot, like me. :P And one of her favorite games is The Skyward Sword. So I drew Link wearing the outfit he wears in that game. But his hair is a tad on the greenish side in that game, so I changed it to be more yellowy blond like from Breath of the Wild. :P

Here's a picture of Link from The Skyward Sword. :)

In case you wanted to know, I used a reference base for my drawing.

It's a pretty simple base, but I still had a hard time with the hands. XD (Though, I think the Link drawing is again one of my favorite drawings I did for Christmas.)

I drew this for a good friend of mine for Christmas. :3 She really likes this TV show called Avatar: the Last Airbender. And I love it, too! XD And one of her favorite characters is a firebender named Zuko. <3

Here's picture of him. XD Zuko's such a grumpy guy, but I love him. XDDD

- - -

I don't know if you guys want to know, but here's something I'm working on at the moment. :D

I still have to add the light spots and stuff to her eyes and then I'll color it. C:

I felt like drawing her in a parka because it's still really cold outside and I don't do a lot of winter pictures, in general. And for some random reason I wanted to draw a magical tornado. XDDD I don't know why I felt like drawing that. :P

- - -

Welp, I think this post is done for today! XD I hope you guys enjoyed! And have an amazing weekend!!! :D

What's your favorite video game or TV show?

Books of October + This Needs a Better Name

Wow! It feels like October really flashed right by.* :O I can't believe that it's the 4th of November already!

I've been making this a monthly thing, writing about the books I've been reading. When I started doing it this last month I was gonna just do my favorite books I've read in the past month. Now I decided I'm going to change that and do any books I've read and feel like talking about. And this series of posts needs to have a better name. I tried to come up with names but they are all really cheesy. XD I wrote a list of names and you guys can tell which is best or you can suggest a totally different name in the comments.

Beware! The names you'll read below may be too cheesy and awful. If you get hurt in the process of reading them, Faeries and Folklore will not be responsible for it.

  • Faery Good Books
  • Books, Books and More Books
  • Tales of the Month (credit to my bro for this name. XD )
  • Folkish Books
  • Opus of the Month (credit to my sis, Lostfairy, for this one)**
  • Reading Creations (credit again to Lostfairy)
  • Reads I've Been Reading
  • I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO NAME THIS POST SERIES AT ALL.

Yeah, that was all I could come up with. :( Thank you, Josiah and Lostfairy for your help!!! It was much appreciated! XD

Now on to the post I promised you all!

*Wink, wink. Did you see what I did there? XD

**Opus means books. XD
- - -

The Kill Order by James Dashner

I don't know what to say about this book. I have such mixed emotions about it. I really, really loved the story and plot and snuff, buuuut there were a few more swear words in this book than in the first three books.* What I did like about the book was that we finally got to see what the world was like after the Flare and before the Cranks were around and before WICKED stuck their noses into EVERYTHING! *glares at WICKED disapprovingly* The book had a very different feel to it, but it was also very much the same as the other books.**

I'm really looking forward to reading the final book in The Maze Runner series!

*That was kinda disappointing. :(

**That makes, like, zero sense when I say it that way, but it's true! XD

Crossed by Ally Condie

I loaf this series so much! XD This book again had a slight hint of bitter sweetness about it. I love the romance between the characters.* I'm not sure if I liked this book as much as the first one, but it still is a book I would buy and recommend. :) I liked how the book was from both Cassia's and Ky's point of view. I loved learning bits and pieces of their past, it was so sweet and sometimes heartbreaking.

*Ky is my one of my book baes. XD

Cake Pop Crush by Suzanne Nelson

If you have not picked up a Suzanne Nelson book, what are you waiting for?! Go pick one up NOW!!!!  XD Seriously, though, they are so good. I've read Cake Pop Crush before but it was just as good the second time round as it was the first. This was the first ever Suzanne Nelson book I read and it has a special place in my heart. ^.^ The relationships between all the characters was so enjoyable and cute. Dane was a real cutie. XD

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkin

This book is such a fabulous classic. The humor and style is priceless. ^.^ I've read this book a long time ago and reread again last month. I forgot most of what happened so it kinda felt like a new-ish read for me. I loved the characters way more reading it this time round and I was far more connected to the story than before, too. Bilbo is such a sweet little hobbit. And Gandalf has this uncanny ability to come when he's needed most. XD It's great!

If you haven't read this book yet, you totally should!

Save the Cupcake! by Lisa Papademetriou

I love reading this book so much! The characters feel so real. And the recipes in the book are really unique!* The book is a beautifully written story about friendships and how they can change for better or for worse. So the book can kind of feel really sad but there's a enough happiness in the book for it to be a middle grade novel.

*I haven't tried them out yet, so I don't know if they taste good. XD

Sticks and Stones by Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle, Emily Jenkins

Like the first book in the Upside-Down Magic series, this book was a delightful, quick read! The story and characters are just as charming as they were before. And in Sticks and Stones the authors write the book from two of the characters' point of view, instead of one. :D I loved learning more about Bax's backstory in this book.

Wayfarer by R. J. Anderson

Wayfarer is sooo different from the first in the series, Faery Rebels! Honestly, I'm not sure if I like that or not. In the first book I loved Knife and Paul together tons, and in the second one I liked Linden and Timothy together buuuut not nearly as much. :/ I wish I had liked this book more because the first book is one of my favorites now and I wanted the second book to live up to that.

Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy Wayfarer! I liked seeing what the world looked like from outside the Oak and the new magical abilities were really cool. It just simply wasn't my favoritest book in the whole wide world. :P

Unblemished by Sara Ella

This book was good and kinda cheesy at times. I'm not sure if there were too many deaths that weren't actually deaths. Like if the main character thinks a person is dead, they most likely are not; and if someone else in the book says someone is dead, they are more likely to ACTUALLY be dead. The romance in there wasn't too bad. I like Ky and Joshua a fair bit.* But the main reason I want to read the next book is the epilogue. Seriously, it's the epilogue that draws me in to read more.

*There is way too many Ky's (or Kai's) in the book world. DX :P

How was your month? Did you get lots of reading done? Have you read any of the books I talked about? Which post series name do you like best? Do you have a better name?

The Steadfast Pen - Blog Launch

Hallo, everyone!

Today is going to have a special post! My brother, Josiah Dyck, just launched his blog last Friday and he asked me to do a blog launch for him. (I said yes, of course. Wouldn't want me to be a mean sister, now would we?)

His blog is called The Steadfast Pen. (Nifty title, right?) He is going to do posts about books and writing and a bunch of other cool things on there! You can check out his blog here.

So for this blog launch I'm doing an interview with him. My sisters and another follow blogger did blog launch interviews too.

Here's links for them all:

My interview with Josiah is about bookish things because this blog has to do with books. (Obviously.)

The Steadfast Pen Interview

Chloe: What's your favorite book genre?

Josiah: Ooh, that's an easy one! My favorite genre is fantasy, particularly YA fantasy. Though I suppose some series I like are placed under the MG fantasy section, so there's that too. I also like action/adventure, along with other genres, but fantasy is definitely my favorite.

Chloe: What book world do you wish you could live in?

Josiah: I'm going to give a twofold answer and say that, if the world had to be one of my own creations, I'd choose either Yashan from my Darkened Slumber story or the world in The Portal Chronicles, which I have yet to rename. (The original name was too similar to other made-up world names.) If I had to live in someone else's world, I would probably pick Middle-Earth or Araluen (from the Ranger's Apprentice series).

Chloe: Which book character that you have read is most like you?

Josiah: Boy, I've read about a lot of characters; choosing one is gonna be hard. Maybe Hal from the Brotherband Chronicles, or perhaps Sam Hopkins from Crazy Dangerous. Hal and I are both creative people who can sometimes be overlooked by others, and sometimes our ideas don't work out because we missed a small detail, which frustrates us to no end. Sam feels very relatable because he wants to do the right thing, but he can get scared about what he has to do. He's willing to see past what others say and dig down to the heart of the matter. I dunno, these two guys feel similar to me in some regards.

Chloe: What is your favorite book? (Besides the Bible. ;D )

Josiah: There goes my answer. XD Well, I can't really pick just one book or series that's my favorite. But one of my favorite stand-alone books is Vigilante by Robin Parrish. Because, you know, I love superhero stories, and this one had a lot of amazing themes in it, with great character arcs and interesting characters. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

Chloe: Do you like reading classics?

Josiah: Depends on the classic, I think. I mean, I love The Lord of the Rings, Jules Verne's stories, Hamlet, etc. But I feel there are some classics I just can't get into, and won't ever read, such as The Pilgrim's Progress or Pride and Prejudice or anything like that. The classic has to interest me in some way to get me reading it.

Chloe: What main book genre have you never read?

Josiah: I have never, and probably will never, read horror. Creepy thrillers I can handle. Horror is a completely different story, and yes, that pun was intentional. It's a genre that tends to get very weird and dark very quickly. (My original answer was going to be romance, but I have read a romance trilogy, so I couldn't use that as my response.)

Chloe: If you could only read three books for the rest of your life and nothing else, what would they be?

Josiah: Seriously? I have to pick only three books? Well, if I have to. I'd pick the Bible (particularly in the Voice translation), Vigilante by Robin Parrish, and Burning Thorns by Christine Smith. Those were the first three answers off the top of my head. If I thought about it too long, I'd never be able to decide. XD

Chloe: Have you ever read Peter Pan, if not would you? (If you haven't read it and won't read it, you are no longer my brother. XD Kidding! Maybe.)

Josiah: I have never read Peter Pan in my life, and I never will . . . just kidding. I might pick it up sometime, especially if our sibling relationship is in the balance. I'd have to see if it's my kind of classic story.

Chloe: What is the most hated book you have ever read?

Josiah: Vanish by Tom Pawlik is one of my least favorite books that I have ever read--and the sad thing is that it's a Christian fiction story. I hate it when Christian fiction authors seem to think that they can get away with a poorer quality of writing and cram preachy messages into it. I don't remember a whole lot about the story, but what I do remember is that I slogged through it and didn't enjoy it. The premise sounded decent, but the execution was sloppy. I can't recommend this book to anyone, even though it won an award. I'm really not sure how.

Chloe: What's your favorite villain? And why?

Josiah: I have many favorite villains, but Lord Burleigh from the Bright Empires series by Stephen R. Lawhead. Why? Because he's a ruthless and roguish gentleman, which makes for a pretty awesome villain in my books. And then there are other reasons that I can't disclose, due to spoilery things.

Chloe: What's your favorite weapon that you have read in a book?

Josiah: I'd have to say the Word from the Beyonders trilogy by Brandon Mull. Again, I cannot really give my reasons why because they involve spoilers. Just go read the series yourself and you'll see why!

Chloe: How many pages is a happy length of a book for you?

Josiah: Mmm, I'd have to say 300-450 pages is a pretty comfortable length for me. Anything less than the 300 feels too short in my mind, for the most part. If it exceeds 450 pages, and it's not an interesting book, I can get bored of reading the same book--if that makes sense.

Chloe: Which book series have you wished would be longer, but it isn't?

Josiah: I'd have to say either the Montmorency series or the Imperial Commando series. The last book of the first series ended off on a huge cliffhanger, and there was never another book, which was frustrating. The Imperial Commando series had picked off where the Republic Commando series left off, but there was only one book published. I had wanted to find out what happened to the characters, so it was disappointing that I never did.

Chloe: Which book would you really want to be a movie and why?

Josiah: It's not really a book, but I want the Ranger's Apprentice series to be adapted into a movie. Then again, it'd probably be multiple movies. If they have a big budget and a great cast, they would make awesome movies. At least, that's my opinion.

Chloe: If you could only talk to people about one book, which one would it be?

Josiah: I'm going to exclude the Bible for this question and say . . . one of my own! XD I really don't know. I can't choose just one book to talk about. I'm just going to pick a random one and say A World Without Heroes by Brandon Mull. Like I said, picking one is super difficult.

Josiah: Thanks for having me here on your blog, Chloe! ^_^

Chloe: You're so welcome, bro! I liked reading what you had to say about books.
